11 May Maker’s Monday: Road to Ren Fest
Happy Monday everyone!
In these quarantine times I’m constantly searching for a way to stay busy. I do kickboxing 3 times a week. I’ve been cooking more. I’ve been making an absurd amount of memes specific to my various friend groups to the point where I’ve had to make 2 new folders on my phone just to keep everything nice and organized. A lot of my plans for the spring and summer have been cancelled or pushed back to fall and winter. This of course, includes every convention I was set to attend during these months. And it’s kind of put me off working on cosplay if I’m being honest. It’s not that I don’t want to work on new costumes, it’s just that I’m having a hard time convincing myself to get down to the dungeon and get to work. Especially with Peppa staring me down every time I take a seat.
But I think it’s time to compromise with myself. I want to work, I just need some inspiration. So I’m caught thinking to myself, what is it that I’m really interested in right now? What am I spending a lot of time doing. Well for one, I’ve been playing a lot of Animal Crossing. So you KNOW I’ll be doing a blog on Flick at some point. But the other thing that’s been keeping me occupied is Dungeons and Dragons! I was actually invited to my first campaign last November, though we didn’t actually get to start until April. And wouldn’t you know it? 2 weeks in a different friend invited me to a campaign they plan to start later this month.
Now that second friend should be visiting right in time for Ren Fest, so long as everything is still on schedule for it by the time he arrives. And when I mentioned off hand that I believed it would be fun to do some respective dnd characters for the fest he got super excited. So my fate was sealed. I joked about painting myself blue for ren fest and now I have to do it. But that’s good by me. I haven’t been excited about making anything lately and suddenly I was throwing myself head first into making sure I had a design that I not only enjoyed, but could reasonably make. And if I’m going to make that character, why not make the other one as well? He’s got a relatively simple design. I don’t have too much going on. Might as well! So here we are. Starting a maker’s monday blog series while I work towards my ren fest designs. And occasionally bits and pieces of other costumes I’ll be working on, or maybe even some tutorials from those who follow our page!
But for now let’s get acquainted with the designs I’ll be working on. My Strahd PC, a half elf rogue named Leo, and my Tal’dorbae PC, a tiefling bard named Velvari.
Make sure to tune in next week, where I’m pretty sure I’ll be talking about weapons construction. Until then!
